Barcode scanner

The barcode scanner lets you attach a physical QR code or barcode near a plant, for example on the pot, and link it to the plant in Kasvia. Any standard barcode or QR code works, so you can reuse barcodes from food packaging to identify your plants. Note that identical food packages contain the same barcode, so each plant needs a different code to tell them apart.

For security reasons, the actual value contained in the barcode is not stored as-is. Instead, Kasvia stores a hash of the value.

Once the code is linked, you can open the plant page faster by scanning the code from the search view. No scrolling or typing is needed.

The feature is included in Kasvia Plus.

Where to find it

Linking: Plant settings (gear icon) → Barcode. Search: Home search function -> QR code mode

Common questions

How do I link a barcode to a plant?

Open the plant's settings (gear icon) and tap Barcode. Point your camera at the barcode or QR code to scan and link it to that plant.

How do I open a plant by scanning?

Tap the search icon in the Plants tab, then switch to the scan tab. Point your camera at the barcode or QR code on the plant pot and Kasvia will open that plant's profile.

What kind of codes can I use?

Any standard barcode or QR code works. You can buy QR code stickers, print your own, or scan barcodes already on nursery plant labels.

I get an error saying the code is already in use.

Each code can only be linked to one plant at a time. Open the plant that currently has that code and remove the link before attaching it to a new plant.
